Pre-pregnancy counseling   includes the evaluation of all couples planning to have a child, from a medical perspective, on all issues that may concern the pregnancy process. It is beneficial for those with chronic and hereditary diseases, as well as prospective parents without any health problems, to seek expert medical counseling before pregnancy. In couples who seek expert medical counseling before pregnancy, the risks that may be encountered during pregnancy are minimized.

What is Pre-Pregnancy Counseling?

Four-dimensional ultrasound is a detailed imaging of the baby in the womb using sound waves. Unlike normal ultrasound, four-dimensional ultrasound provides a simultaneous and moving image of the baby. This gives expectant mothers and fathers the opportunity to meet their babies while they are still in the womb. This method is generally used so that parents can see their babies in detail, and is also used in some risky pregnancies.

What is Ultrasound?

The imaging of tissues and organs within the body using sound waves is called ultrasound. Sound waves with frequencies higher than the human ear can hear are called ultrasonic sound waves. Obtaining images using these sound waves is called ultrasonographic imaging. These high-frequency sound waves are transmitted to the tissues in the body through the probe in the ultrasound device. An image is created using the sound waves reflected from the tissues and projected onto the screen.

Ultrasonographic imaging was first used to locate submarines during World War I. Its medical use began in 1943, when it was used to image and examine the brain. Its use in gynecology and obstetrics began in the 1970s.

Ultrasound imaging performed during certain weeks of pregnancy allows specialist physicians to evaluate the health of the baby and the mother. During pregnancy;

  • Monitoring the baby’s development,
  • It allows early diagnosis of any abnormality in the baby,
  • Ultrasonographic examination is used to evaluate the blood circulation of the baby in the womb.

What is a Detailed Ultrasound?

During pregnancy, different ultrasonographic imaging methods are used, including 2, 3 and 4 dimensional. Three and 4 dimensional ultrasounds provide a detailed and clearer image of the baby in the womb than 2 dimensional ultrasounds. Detailed ultrasonographic examination is a detailed ultrasonographic evaluation of the baby from head to toe.

During pregnancy, 2D ultrasound is usually sufficient for a specialist examination. However, in some cases, when there is a suspicion of developmental problems in the baby, 3D and 4D ultrasound techniques can be used. At the same time, even if no problems are detected, detailed ultrasounds can be used because families want to see their babies more clearly.

What is 4D Ultrasound?

Four-dimensional ultrasound   is the acquisition of a live and instantaneous moving image of the baby in the womb. As in other ultrasonographic imaging methods, high-frequency sound waves are used in 4-dimensional ultrasound. The difference from 3-dimensional ultrasound is that it allows the baby’s movements and facial expressions to be seen in real time. 3-dimensional ultrasound; It performs imaging using the dimensions of width, depth and length. In 4-dimensional ultrasound, the time dimension is added to these. Thus, all movements of the baby in the womb are displayed in detail and simultaneously. You can make an appointment with our clinic for   4-dimensional ultrasound and all other gynecological diseases and obstetrics applications.

When is a 4D Ultrasound Performed?

During pregnancy, monitoring of the baby and mother’s health with ultrasound imaging begins in the first weeks of pregnancy. However, in order to benefit from detailed ultrasound techniques, it is necessary to wait until the later months of pregnancy. 4D ultrasound imaging can be performed essentially every week of pregnancy. However, the most suitable time period for obtaining clear and detailed images is the 6th and 7th months of pregnancy. The baby’s subcutaneous fat tissue develops between the 26th and 30th weeks of pregnancy. Thus, the baby in the womb becomes structurally more suitable for 4D ultrasound during this period.

4D ultrasound is generally not recommended after the 30th week of pregnancy. Because after the 30th week, the baby starts to have a narrow space in the womb and descends into the pelvis. This change in the baby’s location makes it difficult to obtain a clear image using the 4D imaging technique.

In Which Situations Is 4D Ultrasound Performed?

  • For the detection and detailed analysis of facial deformities such as cleft palate and cleft lip in babies,
  • To evaluate infant hand and foot skeletal anomalies such as polydactyly (extra fingers),
  • In the diagnosis of spinal cord problems such as spina bifida (opening in the spine),
  • To determine the gender of the baby earlier,
  • 4D ultrasound can be used to more closely monitor the risks identified during pregnancy.

In addition, 4D ultrasound can be used to help parents connect with their unborn babies, even if there are no problems.
