Laparoscopy is an imaging method used in gynecological diseases involving the uterus, ovaries and tubes. Laparoscopic surgery is an operation performed using high-tech surgical devices, also known as closed surgery among the public. Laparoscopy, which is usually applied in the abdominal region and gynecological diseases, is performed with an average of 1 cm incision opened in the abdominal region. With the help of a camera placed in the abdomen through this incision, it is possible for the surgeon to see the internal tissues and organs. In laparoscopic surgery operations, the surgical instruments to be used are entered into the abdomen through small incisions opened in the abdominal region and the treatment is performed.

What is Laparoscopy?
Laparoscopy is the process of imaging the inside of the abdomen and reproductive organs using an endoscope. A device with a light source and camera at its tip is inserted into the abdomen through a 1 cm incision made at the level of the navel. The image obtained from this device, which is 4-12 mm thick on average, is projected onto a monitor, allowing the surgeon to see the internal tissues and organs. The resulting image is 10-15 times larger than the original size, allowing for detailed observation and examination. During laparoscopy, the inside of the abdomen is usually inflated with a gas containing carbon dioxide to enable imaging.
What is Laparoscopic Surgery?
Laparoscopic surgical operations are also known as closed surgeries. They are surgeries performed with 3 or 4 small incisions opened in the abdomen. In addition to the incision made in the abdomen where the camera is placed for laparoscopic imaging, 2-3 more incisions are made in order to be able to use other surgical instruments. Each incision is an average of 0.5-2 cm in size. These incisions are called laparoscopic ports. Trocars placed in these ports allow other surgical instruments used to easily enter and exit the body.
How is Laparoscopy Surgery Performed?
Laparoscopic surgeries are performed while the patient is under local or general anesthesia. Therefore, the patient does not feel any pain or ache during the surgery. During the surgery, the abdomen is inflated with a gas containing carbon dioxide to allow for easier imaging of the abdomen.
Before the surgery, the area where the surgery will be performed is determined using imaging methods such as tomography. Depending on the area where the surgery will be performed, the patient is given the most accurate position. Then, first the camera that will provide imaging and then other surgical devices are placed inside the body.
Laparoscopic surgeries are performed with the help of incisions opened to allow the camera and devices to be inserted. Usually 3 or 4 incisions are made, and in some cases 5. The sizes of the incisions are usually between 0.5 cm and 1 cm. For example, in an operation performed with 3 incisions, two incisions are 1 cm in size, while the third incision is 0.5 cm in size. Thus, the patient completes the surgery with a total incision size of 2.5 cm.

In Which Situations Is Laparoscopy Applied?
Laparoscopy can be performed for both diagnostic and therapeutic purposes. Diagnostic laparoscopy;
- In order to make detailed diagnosis of cysts, masses and lesions detected in the ovaries, uterus or tubes,
- In case of ectopic pregnancy,
- In patients who do not respond positively to treatment or who experience severe pelvic pain,
- When severe menstrual pain occurs,
- In the diagnosis of infertility,
- It can be used in the diagnosis of genital anomalies.
The laparoscopic method for treatment purposes is;
- In the removal of cysts and masses in the uterus, ovaries and tubes,
- In the ligation of tubes,
- In termination of ectopic pregnancy,
- In removing adhesions in the abdomen,
- In the removal of myomas in the uterus,
- In hysterectomy operations where the uterus is removed,
- To perform a biopsy of ovarian tissue to preserve fertility
- It can be used in the treatment of uterine prolapse.
What Should Be Considered After Laparoscopy?
Laparoscopic surgeries are advantageous because the incision area is much smaller than open surgery. Post-operative infection, bleeding, and pain complaints are much less common. The recovery and return to normal life of the patient is shorter than open surgeries. After laparoscopic surgery,
- You may experience mild to moderate pain in the surgical area for a few days after the procedure. Your doctor may prescribe painkillers to reduce the level of pain.
- Carbon dioxide gas used to inflate the abdomen may cause pain in the shoulders and a feeling of bloating in the abdomen after surgery. The patient may experience nausea. However, this usually goes away on its own within a few days. During this process, painkillers recommended by the specialist physician can be used.
Laparoscopy Prices
Laparoscopy can be performed for different reasons. During the procedure, surgical intervention and treatment can be performed. Therefore, laparoscopy is an application that varies from person to person. At the same time, the anesthesia method to be applied may also vary depending on the diagnosis and treatment to be performed during the laparoscopy procedure. All these variables affect the price of laparoscopy. For detailed information about laparoscopy prices, you can contact our clinic and make an appointment.
